The Twin Cities chapter of BIG-Building Intelligence Group recently joined forces with the Association of Medical Facility Professionals (AMFP) Upper Midwest chapter to host an insightful event on Cybersecurity for Healthcare IT and OT (Operating Technology). This event was not only informative but also highly engaging, thanks to our dynamic MC, Kevin White, Operational Intelligence Consultant with Enhanced Information Solutions (EIS).
Kevin kicked off the event with an interactive game called IT, OT, or No-T, where the audience had to determine if a scenario was related to IT, OT (facilities technologies), or No-Technology. This fun activity set the tone for an engaging and interactive session.
Kevin, who primarily works with municipalities on water treatment and distribution, shared his expertise on protecting critical infrastructure. His insights were particularly relevant to the healthcare sector, where the security of digital signals controlling physical equipment could be the difference between life and death.
Our panel of experts included:
Paul Veeneman, Cybersecurity & Risk lead with Point Solutions Group: A seasoned cybersecurity practitioner with extensive experience in healthcare IT, Paul provided practical advice on mitigating cyber risks.
Angela Hary, Cybersecurity Navigator with the State of Minnesota's IT department, MN.IT: Angela shared valuable resources for public entities dealing with cyber attacks.
Bill Scandrett, CISO at Allina Health: Bill emphasized the importance of collaboration between IT and Facilities to manage networked technologies and prevent threats.
Brad Kult, Intelligent Building Strategist with KFI Engineers: Brad discussed the designers' role in facilitating collaboration between IT and Facilities during planning and construction to ensure mission alignment.
Each panelist brought a unique perspective, and Kevin expertly transitioned between topics, making the session both informative and enjoyable for the audience.
We extend our gratitude to AMFP for collaborating on this event, and a special thanks to Prevlov and Tanya Schneider for her leadership in organizing and hosting.
